Yesterday, I pulled on my hiking boots, strapped on my gaiters, and slung my daypack over my shoulders and took a long hike with my dog on a new-to-us trail. The adventure took a few hours, and in that time, I had the opportunity to stop thinking and just be in the moment. Along the way, we came to a pond that invited us to sit for a while. Spring peepers, red winged blackbirds, and blue jays called to one another from the cattails. Listening to their chatter was much like coming across a local radio station on a road trip; they shared the news of the moment, sang songs, and swapped stories. Tuning into their commentary allowed me to tune out the talking in my own head. I let their news wash over me and sank deeper into a restful bliss.
