There are a few things that just by their presence keep me believing that I am on my path. They are small check-ins with the universe that indicate to me that I am supposed to be here. When a Prince song plays on the radio, when I see 11:11 on a digital clock, or when I spot a red-tailed hawk, these are some of the everyday occurrences that I have turned into personalized signs. I don’t go out of my way to seek them, but when they occur they are special. They bring me to the present moment and to an appreciation for vastness of our world.
I chose the red-tailed hawk as the symbol of Coach Outdoors because this business is part of my path. It is the culmination of every previous experience I’ve had and the perspective I bring to life’s situations. It represents the patience that is necessary to sit high on a tree branch awaiting opportunity, the perspective that comes from soaring above the canopy, and the presence achieved when experiencing each of life’s moments.
Last night I sat in a clearing in the woods and listened to the cries of a red-tailed hawk. It flew a few times between trees and its tail was backlit by the setting sun. In reflecting on a weekend of coach training, taking the opportunity to call my parents and brother, and looking forward to a home-cooked meal, I smiled and thought, I am exactly where I need to be.
